Sight Word Fun

Rainbow words

Use colors to write the words several times. Make each color or word a different color. 

Flash Cards 

Memory Match

Two sets of word cards turned face down.  Take turns picking 2 and reading them. Keep the matches. 

Word Hunt

Look for words in the newspaper, magazines, books, and other printed materials. 

Funny Chants

Spell and read the words in funny voices.
(T...H…E.. spells the.)

Sight Word Bingo

3 x 3 squares with sight words written inside. With more words, use a bigger card.
Call sight words use small objects to cover words called. 

Sentence Writing

Write or use sentences with the words.  Draw a picture about your sentence.
Invented spelling is ok, independence and listening to sounds is the goal! 

Word Building

Cut letters from old magazines and grocery adds. Glue to make sight words.
Use magnet letters or letter blocks or letter cards etc. to build the words

Go Fish

Two sets of sight word cards.
Ask opponent for card to match one in your own hand. When all cards are matched, player with the most matches wins. 

Bang!

Sight words and a few cards with the word bang on it.
Take turns picking cards, cards that are read are kept; others go in the “not known” pile. When a Bang card is drawn all the cards go back except the Bang card. Play until all cards are drawn

Play dough

Shape letters out of play dough to spell words. 

Creative Writing

Use shaving cream, sand, goop, paint, or chalk to finger paint and spell words. 

Beat the clock

Show a word card for 3 seconds and have your child recognize it. 

Guess my Word

Give clues about a word and have students say or write the word.
And (has 3 letters, begins with a…) Add your own!
